Project Overview

The Marshall Islands is the last country on Earth to have an international soccer team. They’re trying to change this, and in 2020 launched the Soccer Federation. This project has mass appeal to football fans around the world. Until they are recognised by FIFA (the world governing body) they won’t receive any funding, and will be required to raise all the funds themselves to undertake grassroots projects to grow the game in their nation.

The Challenges

We identified merchandise sales as the primary opportunity to raise money, generate engagement, and increase the profile of the project. There was no branding or visual identity for the federation.


The Solution

Firstly, we commissioned a visual identity for the federation which reflected the nation, its culture, and positioned it as a professional organisation. Hosting a social media competition to crowdsource a design for their first ever national team jersey, we attracted hundreds of entries from around the world.

From these designs, we chose the winning concept and worked with the playing kit partner to distribute and sell these jerseys via an online store.

The story was shared by news outlets around the world and generated revenue that allowed the federation to grow the sport through numerous projects.
